Alexis was dancing to her music in the dance studio. Tina and Ray were watching her. They liked her moves and they liked the music. In fact, they thought Alexis’s dance was amazing. Tina handed Alexis her water bottle. “Alexis, your dance is really, really good. I didn’t have the courage to say anything, but I don’t like the song Miss Halley picked. Would you consider making your solo a trio? We’d love to join you.”
Alexis didn’t want to cause any more trouble for Miss Halley. “If you go talk to Miss Halley and she says yes, then we’ll do it together.”
Miss Halley looked from one girl to another. “Why didn’t you tell me you didn’t like the song?”
“We didn’t know how to say it.”
Their teacher sighed. “Maybe I was wrong about this.”
When people stay silent and don’t talk about how they feel, things can’t be changed. But if you’re respectful and join together to solve the problem, things can change.
