It Ain’t Easy!

Words to Treasure

He asked the Lord, “Why have you brought this trouble on me?”

Numbers 11:11

Ruth tried to get the graham cracker out of Milly’s nose, but she wouldn’t hold still. The twins had managed to get finger paint on everything in the house. A hamster was loose, and Ruth wasn’t sure where the cat was. Apple juice had gotten into the fish tank, and Jackson had just wet his pants for the fourth time. And Ruth really wanted everybody to stop crying. Babysitting wasn’t supposed to be like this.

Ruth wanted the kids to sing songs with her, do puppet shows and talk about their favorite things. She wanted everything to be perfect, but nothing was turning out the way it was supposed to. Why was this happening? She was volunteering for the church!

That’s the funny thing. Even when we’re doing what God wants us to do, sometimes things still go wrong. And keep going wrong. Our job is to do our best even when everything’s wrong.

People in Bible Times

Moses wondered why things kept going wrong after they left Egypt. His people were disobeying God and complaining all the time. And some wanted to go back to Egypt. His own leaders were giving him a big headache, and there was talk people wanted to stone him to death. And to top it off, other tribes were constantly attacking them. This wasn’t what Moses thought it would be like! Maybe Moses should sing about his favorite things — God and getting to the Promised Land.
