Words to Treasure
I want you to be my holy people.
Exodus 22:31
The church smelled like pine needles and sweet candles. Red ribbons decorated the windows. Every space in the church was filled with people dressed in bright holiday clothes. Barb stood with the choir and sang the words to the Christmas carol. “Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright.” As she sang, Barb wondered how a night could be holy. What exactly did holy mean?
Holy means a few things. God is holy, and that means he is perfect and without fault.
People, places, and things can also be holy, which means they belong to God because he has set them apart for his plans and purposes.
John the Baptist was considered a holy man. He worshiped and served God with all his heart.
The word holy is mentioned about 600 times in the Bible, and that makes it an important word to know. God wants his people to be holy. He wants you to be different from anybody else because you love him and dedicate your life to his plans.
