Words to Treasure
His whole world filled me with joy. I took delight in all human beings.
Proverbs 8:31
Sarah stood by the door and called to her dog, Clancy. Her sister Vicky called for Clancy from against the opposite wall. This was a contest to settle once and for all — which one Clancy loved best. This was a contest Sarah was determined to win. Their dog did love her best, and now she’d have proof. Clancy wagged his tail and barked, but nothing Sarah said brought him closer to her. Finally he decided not to go to anybody; he jumped up on the couch and went to sleep.
Smart dog; he’s not playing favorites. God doesn’t play favorites either. He doesn’t love one person more than another. God wants to be best friends with everybody.
He is your biggest fan, your closest friend. He cares about you every day, just like your family. God is proud of you and wants to spend time with you. But he also feels that way about other people too. And that’s okay, because God’s got enough love for everybody. That’s what makes him such a very cool mystery.
Often in the Bible, we read about God finding favor with people. Favor means to like somebody. That doesn’t mean God is playing favorites. It just means that he loves them and is doing things to help them. God also favors you, and that’s something you can count on.
