Words to Treasure
They saw him walking on the lake and were terrified.
Matthew 14:26
Dean approached Liam as he was climbing on a snowmobile video game. “How come when I invited you to go up to our cabin to snowmobile you said no?” asked Dean.
Liam leaned into a turn. “Doing it for real can break bones. This way I can do jumps and tricks and still make it to the sixth grade. No danger, bro.”
“Liam, at some point you’re going to have to experience real life doing real things. This pretend stuff just isn’t as good.”
Liam’s video machine took a jump off a cliff. “Yeah, but can you do that? That’s a drop, baby.”
Dean shook his head. “Hopeless.”
Sure, doing anything in real life is harder, but isn’t that the point? Life is not one long virtual tour. At some point you have to get out and explore the world for real. Try doing the real thing and see how that feels. It’s good for your mind, body, and spirit. God made a real world for real people to have real adventures.
People in Bible Times
Peter and the other disciples were in a boat in the middle of a lake. When they woke up, they saw Jesus walking on top of the water toward them. They kind of freaked, but Peter decided to try this water-walking thing too. Sadly, Peter didn’t quite have the faith to do it so he started sinking. But no worries — Jesus saved him. See, with God’s real-life adventures, who needs computer-generated ones. (See Matthew 14:22 – 33.)
