What about War?

Words to Treasure

Don’t let evil overcome you. Overcome evil by doing good.

Romans 12:21

Ted felt funny talking to the computer screen, and it was strange because his dad’s responses were delayed and sometimes sounded funny. His movements were all jerky. But this was the only way they could talk on Father’s Day. His dad was a soldier and was away in a far-off country. Ted brushed a tear away. He wanted his dad home. But that wasn’t going to happen today. His dad was going to be away for months. Ted wasn’t sure how he felt about war. It was the thing everybody talked about and the thing that kept his dad away. Sometimes he wished his dad wasn’t a soldier so he would stay home, and sometimes he was really proud of him. He felt all mixed-up inside.

Sometimes a soldier’s job is to protect people and keep the peace. That’s not an easy thing to do. When a soldier believes in God, he or she can pray that God will help with all the situations that come up. Reading the Bible can remind a soldier about being kind and generous even in a bad situation. Talking to God about all your feelings helps you and helps your family. But also pray for everybody involved in a war and pray for peace.

Some soldiers asked John the Baptist how they should behave. John told them not to use their power as soldiers to do wrong things.
