Word of Mouth

Words to Treasure

“So you must go and make disciples of all nations.”

Matthew 28:19

Megan was a communication master. She could handle more gadgets and buttons than anyone she knew. At this very moment she was on video chat, updating her online photo page, listening to music, and texting on her phone. Could a kid get more connected?

Did you ever wonder what they did in ancient times to communicate long distances? How did people get the word out about Jesus? Well, Jesus started with twelve guys and sent them out into the world to talk to people. They traveled by foot, horse, or boat to all kinds of cities in the ancient world. They talked to people in temples, in homes, and on street corners. Then those people talked to other people, and soon the things Jesus did and said were spreading all over the place. It may not have been our kind of social media, but it worked. How can you talk to people about Jesus? Sometimes, just talk face-to-face — no batteries needed. People have been doing it for thousands of years. Give it a try.

People in Bible Times

Paul’s journey to tell the world about Jesus was a little more dangerous than just picking up the phone. The guy was whipped, beaten, imprisoned, almost stoned to death, and was shipwrecked three times. Ancient people played rough. (See 2 Corinthians 11:25.)
