Words to Treasure
One person could be overpowered. But two people can stand up for themselves. And a rope made out of three cords isn’t easily broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:12
Every day it was the same. David would watch the five boys tease the smaller boy. They threw clumps of dirt at him and called him names. But every day the kid just walked home and went inside his house. Every day David felt sorry for him, but he never did anything about it.
One day after school, David walked up to him. “Hey, kid, can I walk home with you?”
He looked so grateful. “Sure.”
As they left the playground, David turned to the five boys and gave them a look that meant the bullying stops now.
It takes courage to stand up to bullies. Bullies can be guys or girls who use words or actions to disrespect or scare someone. Does somebody at school make you feel that way? Talk about it with your parents, teacher, or church leaders. They will help the bully understand that you are not the problem, but his or her behavior is. Nobody has the right to make you feel bad. Bullying can only happen if we won’t help each other.
Live It!
Jesus prayed for the people who were hurting him. He said, “Father, forgive them. They don’t know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). Jesus is our example, so even when people bully you, don’t forget to pray for them. They may bully others because they are having a hard time and just don’t know how to act.
