Words to Treasure
All hard work pays off. But if all you do is talk, you will be poor.
Proverbs 14:23
Toby pointed to the big oak tree in his backyard. “I am going to build the biggest, most amazing tree fort in the world. It’s going to be three levels with a swing bridge, a telescope, and secret passages. Just wait and see. It will be great.”
His friends rolled their eyes. “Like the snow fort last winter or the go-cart last summer?” Evan shook his head. “Man, you’re all talk.” Mumbling, the boys left to go swimming. Toby sat down, embarrassed by his big talk.
His dad stopped gardening and sat beside him. “Maybe we should draw up some plans for that tree fort. You up for it?”
Toby studied the tree. “Could we build the most amazing tree fort in the world?”
His dad tilted his head, “In due time, maybe . . . if you work hard.” Toby couldn’t answer because he was off to get some paper and pencils, so they could draw up plans.
God knows that big talk doesn’t make big dreams happen. You have to pray about it, plan it, and work hard to make dreams come true.
Discovering Archaeology
Scientists figure it took the Egyptians roughly 20 years to build the great pyramid of Khufu. It took the Chinese hundreds of years to build what we now know as the Great Wall of China. It took 14 years to carve the faces on Mount Rushmore, and it took 22 years to build India’s Taj Mahal. Hard work equals amazing things.
