Words to Treasure
Young men are proud of their strength.
Proverbs 20:29
On TV, Allen watched the mountain bikers race down the hillside. They were riding over logs and splashing through deep mud holes. They were awesome! They were the toughest bunch of extreme athletes he had ever seen. Allen looked around the family room and turned off the television. He wasn’t going to be an extreme biker if he sat around inside all day. He swung open the garage door and saw his own bike waiting for him there.
Allen was cruising the dirt trail behind his house. It wasn’t a mountainside but it was a start. He hit a mud puddle and rode hard to get out of it. Doing was way better than watching it on TV.
Keeping your body healthy and working at peak performance is important. Your body is an amazing gift from God that allows you to go snowboarding, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, or whatever you like to do. Being fit gives you staying power, speed, strength, great reflexes, and a positive outlook. And that goes for both guys and girls. Being fit doesn’t require training for the Olympics every day, but it does mean getting off the couch and discovering exactly what kind of amazing athlete is in you.
Extreme sports aren’t new! Wrestling was a hugely popular sport in ancient times. In some cities breaking your opponent’s fingers was fair game. That’s an extreme sport. And not very nice. Don’t try that at home.
