New Neighbors?

Words to Treasure

Love does not harm its neighbor.

Romans 13:10

Becky,” her mother said as she handed her a tray of homemade lemon tarts. “We’re going to take these over to the new neighbors.”

Becky pulled a face, “I don’t know what to say to them. They talk funny.”

Her mother gave her a look. “They don’t talk funny. They speak Greek. They just moved to this country, and they could use some friendliness. You don’t have to speak the same language to be good friends and neighbors.”

The new neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Papadis, insisted on inviting the entire family for dinner. Becky had to admit she had a great time. Becky even liked the squid, or calamari, with tzatziki sauce. Sometimes we’re scared to meet people who are different from us. But that’s not how God wants us to be. He wants us to be good neighbors to everyone we meet so we can share our differences and find lots in common.

Live It!

Invite your friends over for an international potluck dinner and ask them to bring a favorite family dish that represents where their family came from. You could also bring some old family photographs and a good story to tell. Good food and good friends with a global twist.
