Words to Treasure
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid. You are with me.
Psalm 23:4
The pictures on television were upsetting. Trish watched from the doorway of the family room, not wanting to get too close to them. Her parents watched the news every night, and every night the world seemed to get scarier and more dangerous. Weren’t there any good people left in the world, and wasn’t there any good news at all? Trish was so tired of feeling scared all the time.
The world has always had hard and scary times. But now, we have instant television news showing us every bad thing that happens every day, everywhere around the world. But that’s not the whole story. There are also many good things happening in our world. Really good things are happening every minute of every day. People are helping each other and taking care of our planet. And God is in charge of all of it. God doesn’t want you to live in fear, because he is with you every minute of every day.
Live It!
For two weeks, cut out of the newspaper only positive news about the world and watch only positive television shows. After you have a collection of good stories, go through them with your family. Talk about what you discovered and how you feel about the world now. Fear can’t grow if you focus on what’s good and hopeful in the world.
