Words to Treasure
Some people in Jerusalem were thought to be important. But it makes no difference to me what they were. God does not treat people differently.
Galatians 2:6
The smell of breakfast in the morning had to be just about the best smell in the whole world. Sarah slid down the banister and cruised into the kitchen — it was a good day. She glanced at the paper her dad was reading. Her good day just came to a bad stop. The person she most admired in the entire world . . . the person she wanted to be exactly like . . . the person whose poster was on her bedroom wall . . . had cheated in a world sports competition! The thought made her not want to eat breakfast.
We can admire famous people, but that doesn’t mean we actually know them. Sometimes the person you admire may not be who you thought he or she was. Admiring famous people is fine, but don’t stop there. Look around and see the amazing people right in your own family, school, and church.
There are people in your own town who aren’t famous, rich, or successful. You won’t find their pictures on bedroom walls, but they do amazing things to help others. They’re heroes!
Live It!
Talk to your parents, pastors, teachers, and coaches and ask them who they admire in your town or neighborhood. Ask them why they admire these people. Find out who the heroes are right in your neighborhood and school.
