Too Good for Whom?

Words to Treasure

Be willing to be a friend of people who aren’t considered important.

Romans 12:16

Summer had waited in the line at the music store for two hours. She was waiting to have her autograph book signed by her favorite singer in the entire world. It was a long, long wait but now she was nearly at the front of the line. She had rehearsed and rehearsed what she was going to say to him. Then suddenly she was standing in front of him. But he was talking to a person beside him and, without even looking at her, he signed her book and slid it back. He didn’t ask her name. She didn’t talk to him. They didn’t even make eye contact. He didn’t know she existed!

Being ignored never feels good. Did you know that there might be people who look up to you too? It might be a younger brother or sister, someone in a younger grade at school, or someone in an activity you do. There are people who admire you and may be looking for an opportunity to talk with you. Take the time to be interested in other people, famous or not. God’s watching how you treat others.

Live It!

Do you know somebody at school, church, or in sports who might be having a hard time making friends? Take the time to get to know him or her. Maybe invite them to hang out with you and your friends. Take the time to be a friend to somebody who needs a friend.
