Words to Treasure
Show proper respect to everyone.
1 Peter 2:17
Taylor watched the dolphins swim past in their lagoon. One dolphin swam up and chattered at him. Taylor was glad, but he felt uncomfortable. The collar of his best shirt made him hot, and his good shoes pinched because he had almost outgrown them. He wanted to put on his shorts and T-shirt, but this was his interview to try out for the junior volunteer program at the aquarium. The program director walked toward him with an impressed smile on his face. Suddenly a wall of cold water drenched Taylor’s new shirt, best jeans, and tight shoes. The dolphin surfaced, pretty pleased with the results of his mega tail splash. The director laughed, “I guess Slick approves of you. Need a towel?” Taylor smiled and nodded.
Okay, not everybody is going to get a soaker when trying to make a good first impression. But first impressions are important. When we take the time to care about how we look, it tells people that we respect them and want them to think well of us. It tells people they can trust us to do a good job. First impressions are always the first step into new things.
Did You Know?
Did you know it takes only a few seconds for people to form ideas about you based on how you look and your body language? They can tell whether you look friendly, interested, or fun to be with, all before you even say a word.
