Words to Treasure
I will make a covenant with you that will last forever. I will give you my faithful love.
Isaiah 55:3
Jack looked at his book report. He was so angry. It was a masterpiece, perfect in every way, but he had only gotten a B-minus. It was mind-boggling that Mrs. Carter couldn’t see the brilliance in his work. This was unfair, a travesty of justice . . . although he wasn’t sure what that meant.
“Jack?” Mrs. Carter noticed his upset face. “Would you like to talk?” He sure did!
Can you be mad at God in the same way that you can be upset with your teacher or parents? Can you be upset with God? Moses, Elijah, and Job all were. Did they quit believing in God or ignore him? No, they talked to God about their unhappy feelings.
God understands our feelings and wants us to be honest with him about everything. But that doesn’t mean he’ll change the way things are going. Because sometimes we simply don’t see the big picture of why God does things the way he does. Just keep trusting in God’s love in all situations. He knows what’s best, and he’s there when you need to talk.

The prophet Elijah was having a hard time because he was the center of a prophet manhunt. Everybody wanted to kill him, and he wanted to quit being a prophet. God listened to Elijah’s fears and complaints. He sent angels to take care of Elijah, and then he had a heart-to-heart with his prophet. Elijah was both humbled and encouraged. (See 1Kings 19:1 – 18.)
