Red Hot Fashion Challenge #5: Find a Shirt That Flatters Your Best Parts

Find a shirt that makes you look hot in all the right places.

My sister Alisa and I are the best shopping partners. Mostly because she’s a lot of fun to shop with—she always knows which stores have sales and she always gets whip on her latte—but also because we are built totally differently. My sister used to be a swimmer—and a good one—so she has strong arms, small perky boobs, and a tiny waist. I did not used to be a swimmer. So my waist isn’t quite as svelte. And my breasts aren’t quite as perky. And my arms aren’t quite as strong. But ladies, my rib cage—let’s just say the good Lord blessed me with a fabulous rib cage.

I’ll go ahead and add that asset to my model-to-be questionnaire.

Anyway, back to shirts. When my sister and I go shopping for clothes, we can pretty much guarantee that if a shirt looks awful on her, then it will look great on me. And vice versa. Because shirts that are too loose on her boobs look great on mine. And shirts that are too tight on her ribs, well, they hug mine perfectly. So when we shop, we go into the dressing room with an armful of shirts and we both try every single one on. And eventually we find the perfect shirt.

Your challenge today is to go shopping with one of your friends who has a different body type. If you’re small-chested, go with your friend who just had a baby. And if you’re a bit chunky in the waist, go with that girl who looks like a beanpole. But there’s more than just going shopping together. We want you to let your friend pick out some shirts for you to try on. Have her go around the store and find several shirts she likes for you, and you go around the store and find several shirts you like for her. Then try them on and see if you find something that fits.

When you’re trying on the clothes, I want you to try to look at yourself in the mirror with a different eye. See what parts of your body each shirt accentuates (and yes, if it makes your ribs look hot, then go you), and start thinking about what types of shirts accentuate your best parts. Because if you’re wearing a shirt that shows off the best parts of you, you can’t help but be confident.

I hope that while you’re shopping, you will find at least one shirt that looks amazing on you. That’s the one I want you to buy. And wear for your husband tonight.

Red Hot Bonus Section: The Best Tops for Every Body Type

• If you have a short torso or a little bit extra around the waist, pair your shirt with a long necklace. It adds length and draws attention away from the middle.
• If you worry about flabby arms, pick up a couple short-sleeved cardigans. They can cover those problem areas and make you look taller and leaner in your favorite shirts.
• If you are large-chested, choose a V-neck or a wrap top. But wear a camisole under it if you’re worried about cleavage.
• If you are small-chested, choose a scoop neck or button-down. Also, try wearing a scarf or chunky necklace.
• If you have a big waist (or a leftover baby bulge), try a shirt that’s triangle shaped or straight. Drapey shirts, which women often think hide those bulges, actually tend to cling to all the spots where you don’t want them to.
