Two men stood side-by-side looking through night vision binoculars at the compound they are about to invade.
“Is everyone in place, Lieutenant?” Overseer Interrogator Jorgan asked. He led the Overseer mission to track down the renegade prisoner, Tess Logan, and to reclaim the Command Center and the Dark World. The tracker placed in Tess weeks ago had led them directly to this insect infected jungle compound.
“Yes, sir. We await your command.”
“Very good.” He smiled. Soon he would take back control. These vagrants won’t know what hit them.

“Stop staring at her, asshole! She is mine!” Vincent growled at Solan. For the last hour he had to tolerate the disrespect of the lycan leader openly lusting after his female.
Solan chuckled. “Come on, Vincent. It’s not like you haven’t shared females before. Besides, she’s still human. She should have a right to choose who she belongs to and what she wants to be turned into, vampire or lycan.” Solan was taken by human Tess’s beauty.
Tess Logan was her name. Lucas had told him the female’s name and everything he knew prior to the meeting. Lucas had learned it from the other human female pilot. Miss Logan was part of the Resistance who had been captured, tortured, and then sentenced to the Dark World.
She was a golden blond and with the deepest blue eyes he had ever seen. Knowing she survived an Overseer brutality meant she was equally strong. She was too good for a dirty vampire. Solan had originally planned to take the female and play with her before giving her to his men. He knew it would drive Vincent crazy because he did not like to share. But now that he had seen and met the female in person, he wanted her and so did his wolf. She would make him the perfect mate. He was determined to claim her before the day was over. He winked at the golden beauty that soon would be his.
Tess couldn’t help but shift uncomfortably in the chair someone had gotten for her. She looked between Solan and Vincent and saw there was hatred and disgust between the two. Somehow she had become the center of contention. Again, she thought that she should have remained at the vampire cavern. She didn’t want to distract Vincent. She hated the way the lycan leader antagonized Vincent by trying to flirt with her. Someone needed to put the furry asshole in his place. The humanoid leader, Lucas, acted like he could care less, actually he looked bored. She had to do something.
“I do have the right to decide and my decision is that I belong to Vincent.” She lifted her chin up in defiance and glared at Solan. That only made him smile wider. He confused her with his response.
“You have the loveliest throat,” Solan commented, licking his lips.
“Enough!” Lucas finally interrupted what would have been a battle inside the small room. He turned his attention to Vincent. “An agreement has already been made between the humanoids…us humanoids and the werewolves. You are here to say whether you agree to an alliance or not. What’s your answer?”
Vincent glared at the puny humanoid leader. “I thought there would be a trade. Information from you on the current location of the Command Center in exchange for some of our humanoid feeders to be returned to you.”
Lucas snorted. “You can keep the feeders. They are practically vampire now. They signed their fates over to you years ago. You have nothing to offer but your allegiance. The council has ruled the location of the Command Center is no longer on the table since you have nothing we want.”
Tess gasped but stayed silent. They needed that location. Without it she couldn’t contact the Resistance.
Vincent stood. “Then there will be no allegiance with the vampire clan.”
Solan and Lucas both stood. “Then you will not leave here alive!” The werewolves and humans inside the small room began to move toward Vincent but suddenly froze in place.
Solan looked at his men and became furious. “What is this?”
“Did you think all we vampires could do was read your puny minds?” Vincent laughed. He had to get them out of there quickly. There was no way his powers could hold so many frozen for very long. He was losing his strength quickly and need to feed soon or he could go into a comatose state. He motioned for his vampire guards to retrieve Tess and move her toward the door.
“You won’t get far, vampire. My people are surrounding this compound and are watching for you,” Solan warned.
“And my people won’t let you out of the compound alive,” Lucas also warned him.
“But you see, my people are also waiting for my command, and I can contact them mentally each and every one of them.” Vincent opened the door and all hell broke loose.

There were multiple attacks going on at once and it was chaotic. The humans were up to something—he could hear their thoughts plotting an attack. Then came noise and burning light. More chaos...
Vincent watched in shock as someone with a mask on his face threw a small silver device into the room. It immediately erupted with a sharp painful sound that brought the werewolves to their knees. They covered their ears and blood started to leak from their nose, mouth, and ears. Then the silver disc emitted a bright blinding UV light. Vincent and his guards were blinded and they began to smoke as they too went to their knees.
“Vincent!” Tess covered her eyes with her hand, blocking some of the bright light from her eyes. She made her way to him. “Baby, what’s happening?”
“You…must…leave,” Vincent told her.
“No, not without you.” She shook her head.
Vincent looked over and found that Lucas was just as affected by the sound bomb as Solan. He wasn’t human, he was… “Lycan.”
Tess was confused until she turned her head to see what Vincent was pointing at. The humanoid guards were trying to help Lucas, he suddenly grew fangs as he covered his ears in pain. “He’s a lycan.”
“Go, Tess!” Vincent tried to push her out the door. “My people will protect you. Get out of the compound.”
Maybe she could seek out Vincent’s vampires to come and help. “I’ll come back for you.” She kissed his forehead, then she stood and headed to the door.
Another silver object was thrown into the room before she made it there, and it emitted a thick gas. She watched in horror as each of the humanoids dropped to the floor one by one. She covered her mouth with her shirt and looked for a way out. Then a voice reached her, one she hoped to never hear again.
“Hello, Tess. Have you missed me?” Overseer Interrogator Jorgan walked into the room holding a mask over his face.
Tess wanted to say something but suddenly she too was falling to the floor, unable to move. She really wished she had remained back at the vampire caverns. Well she was fucked now. Then she had no more thoughts.
