MTA Bike & Ride (www.mta.info/bike): Information about bicycles and public transportation, bridges, and tunnels in the NYC metro area.

New York City Department of Transportation Bicyclists (www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/bicyclists/bicyclists.shtml): DOT’s website with information about bicycle laws, safety, the city’s bike share program, maps, and more.

New York City Department of Transportation Bike Map (www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/bicyclists/bikemaps.shtml): Current city bicycling map, including detail maps of bridge access points and major intersections. A must for all cyclists.

Bicycle Advocacy

Bike New York (www.bikenewyork.org): Nonprofit bike advocacy organization, with basic biking classes, workshops, rides, and more. The organizers of the Five Boro Bike Tour, among other rides.

Bike NYC (bikenyc.org): A go-to place for all things cycling-related, operated by the nonprofit Transportation Alternatives, with an extensive list of cycling resources on their “about” page.

Citi Bike (citibikenyc.com): New York City’s bike share program.

Free Wheels Bicycle Defense Fund (www.bicycledefensefund.org): Nonprofit organization that assists cyclists with legal matters.

New York Bicycling Coalition (www.nybc.net): Nonprofit organization that advocates for bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly policies; includes cycling resources including about laws, safety, legal aid, and more.

Time’s Up (times-up.org): Direct-action nonprofit organization that advocates sustainable living through regularly scheduled rides and other cycling events.

Transportation Alternatives (transalt.org): Nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to promoting cycling-, walking-, and public transportation-friendly infrastructure and more; with a wealth of city cycling resources including maps, rides, and more.
