Killer heels are called that because they kill your feet! Look at how many women actually wear 6in/15cm heels - not many. Most women wear flats, pumps or medium heels most of the time. They reserve those killer heels for going out to dinner - by taxi - where they can sit down for most of the evening and if they do walk home, you can bet they have a pair of flats in their bag. Everyday shoes should be comfortable - they can still be stylish and sexy.
So why do so many trans women want to wear seriously high heels? We believe it is often part of a fantasy about the image of women, and it is one that can encourage other people to make negative judgements. As we've said before, as long as you are happy that it's their problem, that's fine. But if your confidence is a little shaky, then you will be better to be less radical in your choice of footwear. Remember, if you are quite tall, that wearing high heels will obviously add another six inches on to your height drawing more attention to your physique. This might be a bit of a masculine giveaway and not help with passing. You can buy some stunning shoes with a lower heel, and if you wear really high heels all the time, how are you going make an impression for that special occasion?
But when that special occasion comes, you want to be able to knock 'em dead in those heels, not look like a constipated duck! We've all seen women trying to walk in heels they can't control. It just looks awful. Worse still, you could twist your ankle and fall over - not the effect you are after. Even trained supermodels can fall foul of high heels - remember Naomi Campbell falling over in her Vivienne Westward shoes?
So, once again, you need to practise.
