Strangely, thrust for our

HPA would be created

in part by friction, which

is also a major element

of drag, against which

thrust is fighting. The

friction helping to create

thrust in this case is

what gives the rubber

tyres their traction with

the runway. Without that

grip, I would not be able

to make any headway

and there would be

no thrust.

Weight

Weight is obviously

what something weighs,

right? Actually, when

you think of weight as

a force, it’s a bit more

complicated than that.

Weight is the effect

that gravity has on the

mass of any given thing.

That’s why an astronaut

on the Moon, who has

the same mass that he

did when he was on

Earth, has a different

weight. Fortunately, we

wouldn’t be going as far

as the Moon.
