Lift
When the front wheel
of the bike enters the
water the surface water
is easily displaced as
spray. Just below the
surface, where the water
is under more pressure
from the volume of
water all around it, it is
not so easy to displace
and a wedge of high-
pressure water builds
up under the wheel,
providing lift to counter
the wheel’s weight.
The planing surface
uses the same kind of
pressure build-up seen
in the front wheel’s
‘wedge’ to provide lift.
Creating that pressure
is all down to maintaining
a constant thrust. If the
thrust drops the bike is
likely to nose dive into
the lake.
