GALVANIZED NAPKIN RINGS

I knew I wanted a simple galvanized touch on my dining table, and a napkin holder seemed the perfect way to do it. But, since I am not a welder, I kept coming up short on what to do. Fortunately, I have a tendency to slowly wander through independent hardware stores and farm-supply stores, focusing on anything with an interesting texture and shape, which is how I came across strap iron. In my weird way of looking at things, it became my “Aha!” moment and the perfect way to simply make a galvanized napkin ring.

MATERIALS

  1. Measure out and cut an 8" strip of strap iron using your metal snips.

  2. Fold over one end and then form a circle. Line up the holes at the ends with the folded-over end laying on top.

  3. Cut a 5" piece of twine with your scissors.
  4. Thread twine from the inside of the ring and tie it in a knot on the outside. Be sure to pull the twine tight to hold the strap iron in place.

  5. Trim excess twine with scissors, then thread your napkin through the ring.

  6. Repeat until you have your desired number of napkin rings, then set your table.
