READ Psalm 90:13–17. 13 Relent, LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants. 14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. 15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble. 16 May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children. 17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.
UNFAILING LOVE. We never want to lose those we really love. We finite beings cannot realize that goal. But if we connect ourselves to God’s “unfailing,” unending love (verse 14), that love overcomes our mortality, and then we never end. This is Moses’s intuition, but Christians know that those who believe in Jesus, the Resurrection and the Life, “shall live, even though they die” (John 11:25). So let nothing trouble you, but get satisfaction in his love every morning (verse 14). And let nothing dazzle you, but see God’s splendor as the only enduring kind (verse 16). And let nothing move you, for God will establish the work of your hands (verse 17).
Prayer: Lord, once your love takes hold of me, even death can only bring me closer to you. “The sinner, sleeping in his grave, shall at my voice awake; For when I once begin to save, my work I ne’er forsake.”86 I love you for loving me like that! Amen.
