life in a bubble

(part 1)

Keep your head in all situations,
endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist.

2 TIMOTHY 4:5

When I was thirteen, I went to Fiji on a mission trip. It was a big thing for me, since I had never been away from home for very long. As excited as I was to be going with all my friends to a foreign land, I was also scared to be away from my parents. I had lived on the Big Island of Hawaii my whole life, and anything outside of that was a different world to me. My parents and the leaders of the team going to Fiji tried to prepare me, but I had no idea what to expect. When we got to Fiji, we drove for four hours to get to Suva and as soon as we got settled, some of us we went out into the city. We met so many people on the sidewalks begging for money. By the end of the trip, I had almost given away everything I had in an effort to give something to each person. My introduction to life outside of the bubble that I had always lived in was scary. There I was, wanting to be used by God, but shaking in my sandals and wondering what it really meant to be a light in a dark world and if I could even do it?

God, give me the chance to go
somewhere new, to be taken out of my
comfort zone, so that I can learn more about You.
