keep calling

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for
and certain of what we do not see.

HEBREWS 11:1

I wanted so badly to get into the Martin Luther King school! I was worried because my letter of acceptance was sent in late. When I turned in my letter, I was told I would be put on a waiting list, at number thirty-one. Despite this, I told my teachers at my old school that I would not be returning. At the time, I had no idea if this was true or not, but I just had a feeling that somehow, someway I would be switching schools and attending Martin Luther King next year. Every day I called to see if I moved up on the waiting list. I started to get discouraged because every day my name was still at number thirty-one. I called so often that the lady who answered the phones knew my name and exactly what I wanted before I asked. She could tell when I got frustrated, and she encouraged me to keep calling. Slowly, many, many calls later, the lady on the phone told me that I was number one on the waiting list. All I needed was one more spot to open up. I was very nervous because school started in just three days, and I still didn’t know which school I would be going to. But God knew. The next day I received my letter of acceptance to MLK, and it reminded me of the importance of not giving up and of continuing to hope.

God, I know that You want me to be
persistent when I want something.
Give me the faith to keep asking You until I get an answer.
