MATTHEW 10:28
Recently I headed out on a missions trip far from home. My mom is the kind of mom who worries about everything. To make matters worse, I am the youngest in the family, the baby, so she is even more protective of me than of my siblings. I have an intense passion for missions, and I take every opportunity I get to go on trips. On the night before my trip to New Orleans, my mom was looking very distressed, and I asked her, “What’s the worst thing that can happen to me?” She just stood there, not saying anything. I proceeded to list various things that could happen to me (most ending in death), which probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do given the situation. She looked as if she might cry. At that moment a song came to mind and I sang her the chorus. It talked about how our souls are secure in Christ, even if our bodies are hurt. I gently said to her, “Mom, I am in Christ and nothing will happen that is outside of His will.” After this, she was able to let me go on my trip, believing that I was Christ’s. I later realized that Satan cannot ultimately do anything to me. God can allow any number of things to come into our lives, but we are never outside His love or control.
