what is faith?

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for
and certain of what we do not see.

HEBREWS 11:1

Before I was saved, I never knew what faith exactly was. No one ever really took the time to explain it to me. I think if you want someone to have faith about something, you should first tell them what faith is. Then explain what they need to have faith in. If you’re witnessing and don’t clarify what faith is, you’re missing most of the testimony. It’s kind of like giving someone the ingredients to make bread, but not the recipe. What do they do with it then? Sit and look at it? Anyway, as I started wanting to follow God more and more, I wanted to find out exactly what faith was. I asked friends and family, and they didn’t know. Then I looked it up in the dictionary—the definitions were not very clear. I finally realized that I was looking in all the wrong places. If God wanted me to know Him, then He would help me see. So I looked though my Bible and came to Hebrews 11:1. God is so good—He does listen to us teens. He cares about us as much as He does adults. If we have faith that God listens to us, then we cannot lose because “faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

I want my faith in You to be so strong, Lord Jesus.
Sometimes it’s hard to believe in what I can’t see,
but I know You’ll help me.
