for all eternity

In my Father’s house are many rooms;
if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going
there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare
a place for you, I will come back and take you to be
with me that you also may be where I am.

JOHN 14:2–3

Recently my family and I drove across town to meet my cousin and her parents at her new apartment. She is going to be a senior in college, and I know she is looking forward to having her own place rather than living in another dorm. We all busied ourselves with various tasks like arranging furniture or unpacking silverware. Before too long, I found myself in the kitchen removing labels from her dishes while marveling at all of the work they had put into preparing the items for her apartment. Cute pillows made by my aunt adorned her couch and chairs, and her lampshades followed the shabby chic trend by sporting the same material. Everything fit perfectly together to create a unique home for my cousin. Amid the cups and cabinets, I considered the fact that just as we were preparing a place for her to live, Jesus is preparing a home for us in heaven with even more tenderness and care. The great news is that Jesus loves us and He wants to be with us. In fact, His love for us is so great that He died in order to create a way for us to live with Him for all eternity. “Come to me,” Jesus says. “Forever is waiting!”

I can’t wait to come and live with You, Lord.
I am so looking forward to being in heaven with You.
