PSALM 119:162
I am a hunter. A bargain hunter. The girls of our family all love a bargain. Just yesterday we found a great sale on jewelry at the mall. It thrilled me. I also found marked-down summer shirts, as well as cute fall sweaters on sale. I’m just sad I have to wait until warm weather to show off some of my new finds. I wish I was as determined and diligent to find treasures in the Bible as I am to snag a find in a great sale. This fall I’ve been reading through the Old Testament for the first time. I used to think it was only genealogy lists and odd rules for Israel, but now I’ve seen it’s alive and applicable to me. I’ve learned from David and seen the qualities that made him a “man after God’s own heart.” God has shown me how merciful He was (and is) through His dealings with the Israelites. Like faithfully looking through a clearance rack to find clothes that fit, carefully reading the Bible, Old and New Testaments, is so worth the time it takes to locate treasures. Long after my clothes bargains wear out or are no longer stylish, these treasures will still be bringing me joy.
