REVELATION 12:11
The first time I gave my testimony in front of people was at a small mother/daughter banquet that my youth group hosted on one of our mission trips. After refreshments the whole group gathered into a church sanctuary and as I stood at the small podium, I could feel my heart beating fast within my chest. I began to talk, explaining how I had grown up with just my mom. When I was seven, she married a wonderful man, and it was the first time I had ever had a father. My throat closed as I explained how I accepted Jesus as my savior not just through those years of being fatherless, but how He would always be my heavenly Father. I began to cry, and I saw two teenage girls sitting beside each other bawling. I didn’t speak for long, but I was amazed how light my spirit felt as I realized that I had obeyed God’s request of me. It was surreal, full, satisfying. The fear and burden was gone. All because I had trusted my God and not only listened to Him but obeyed Him and spoke when He asked me to. Later that night, I went on a long walk with the two girls I had seen crying. One of the girls had grown up without her father, just like me. I was able to hug her, understand what she felt, and reach out to her. My testimony opened the door to befriend the girls of the town we were visiting. Obedience to Jesus brings with it great joy and reward.
