is pride okay?

But, “Let him who boasts boast in the LORD.”

2 CORINTHIANS 10:17

One summer I had the pleasure of hitting the winning runs in the Junior Olympic Class C Softball State Tournament, helping my team advance to the championship game. I celebrated my hit and the victory with the rest of my team. We knew that we had accomplished a huge goal, but also that we still needed to focus on the next game. I realized that it was natural and good to be overjoyed that we won the game and that I had helped us do it. For the first time, I comprehended the difference between being cocky and arrogant and having a healthy, godly attitude about our achievements. If I had claimed to be the best player on the team or said I deserved all of the credit, then I would have been bragging. But as it was, I knew that there was no way I could have done it without the help of God and my teammates. We definitely wouldn’t have made it to the championship game if we hadn’t played together. I saw that it is possible be humble, while at the same time enjoying what you are good at and celebrating what you have done well. For me it has been a lesson in humility and gratitude triumphing over my arrogance and pride.

Lord, I can’t help wanting to win.
But I want to remember that when I win,
the glory is Yours, not mine.
