lonely

Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.

PSALM 73:25

There are many times in my life where I have felt very lonely. I have felt as though I have no one to turn to. Sometimes I feel as though I can bear anything in the world rather than loneliness. I have been through times where all I want is a friend, someone I can be completely open with and who I love being around, a person who really understands me and who is excited about the things I am excited about and who loves the things I love. I have thought that if only I could find that perfect friend, then I would not be lonely. Then I realize who I am describing! Of course I know that friend! He is Christ! He is my best friend! He is the only one who will always be there no matter what is going on in my life. I know now that there are times when I will be truly lonely and when I may not have a good friend here on earth. But this is okay. God made us to need friends, but ultimately He is all that will last, and He alone will satisfy. Another thing God has taught me in the lonely times is that I should appreciate those natural friends I have had since I was born, my family! God gave us our family so that we can lean on each other as we strive for the cross. To me that is very exciting. And it is true that we may not always have our family around, but Christ will never forsake us. He is our everlasting and perfect friend. I pray that God will teach me to be content in Him as I strive on in this journey of life. Even in the loneliest of times!

God, I get lonely a lot. I can’t feel Your presence,
and I think
I have no one to talk to. I pray that I will
never forget that You are there waiting to keep me company.
