the choice

But among you there must not be even a hint of
sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed,
because these are improper for
God’s holy people.

EPHESIANS 5:3

As teen girls growing up in a sex-oriented world today, we have an important choice to make: to choose to remain sexually pure until marriage as God commands us, or to abandon God’s commandment and give in to our desires. It would be much easier for us to honor God’s commandment if we lived in the times of the Puritans or something, because sex wasn’t as big a deal in their culture as it is in ours. Sex is more openly talked about now, so it makes it harder for us to avoid it. But as girls who strive to reflect God in their lives, we must make our own personal choice about sex. Personally, I have chosen to remain abstinent until marriage. On my left ring finger, I wear a promise ring that looks like a wedding band. This ring represents my promise to God, myself, and my future husband that I will remain sexually pure. In Ephesians 5: 1-3, God tells us why we should remain pure. If we are His holy people, we have to obey His Word and not let sin hold us back.

Lord, my purity is a promise
I don’t want to break because it’s a promise
I’ve made to You. Help me to keep it.
