a week in eagle, alaska

For everything that was written in the past was
written to teach us
, so that through endurance and the
encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

ROMANS 15:4

Every year my youth group travels twelve hours on a bus to a teeny tiny town known as Eagle, Alaska. Once there we spend a week leading vacation Bible school for the kids. It’s one of our most exciting and rewarding trips every year, and because it takes on so many different angles, it becomes an amazing opportunity for everyone who goes. It’s great because we spend part of our time working with the kids and serving the Lord in any way possible; and then the rest of the time we’re able to relax and hang around with each other, building stronger relationships that have a common bond in Christ. This year our lessons focused on the Lords prayer found in Matthew 6:9-13, and each day that we spent with the kids, we would look at a different aspect of our Heavenly Father. I was teaching the fourth through sixth graders and it was amazing to look at these verses over and over and learn something new every time. It’s Scripture that I know by heart and have said numerous times, but I realized that there’s a difference between simply knowing something and teaching it to someone else. Being able to spread the Word to younger kids who were so excited to hear about it was an incredible experience for me. The best feeling in the world is to know that God is using you, and whenever I’m in Eagle teaching the kids there, I know that I’m being used for his glory. And that feels awesome.

I want to know that You are using me,
dear Jesus. I want to be the person You
work through to reach people who don’t know You.
