sticks and stones

How beautiful you are, my darling!
Oh, how beautiful!

SONG OF SOLOMON 1:15

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me”? What a lie! Names and labels that cut down who you are DO hurt! I remember second grade when I was called fat by one of my “friends.” It took me till junior high to realize Satan was trying to attack and destroy my self-image. I continually compared myself to my sister and other people until I found out that I am made in a very beautiful and creative way by my Creator, Jesus Christ. He made me with my own beauty, gifts, and talents. I wasn’t made to look like, or be like, anyone else, except Jesus Himself. I am still going through the process of finding out who I really am. Trying not to let people’s words cut me down is tough, but God’s words—“How beautiful you are, my darling! Oh, how beautiful!”—are more powerful than anything anyone else could say.

Father, You look down at me from heaven and see nothing
but beauty. All my flaws are erased, all insecurities gone. It
is so amazing to know that someone sees me that way!
