Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting,
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
PROVERBS 31:30
I have an enemy that has been around for as long as I can remember. My enemy is the mirror. But even though I say that I hate mirrors, I don’t think I could live without one. I love looking at my face in the mirror, both to admire how I look or stare at myself in disgust. When you are shopping, do you ever sneak a quick glance at your reflection in the passing mirror or window to make sure everything is perfect? I do that all the time. Jesus made us women to want to feel beautiful. He put that desire in our hearts, which is fine, but our inward beauty is also something we should be concerned with. The Bible confirms that outward beauty does not last forever and that charm can deceives us, but nothing compares to the inward beauty that the Father gave us. Psalm 45:11 says, “The King is enthralled by your beauty!” Take care of yourself on the outside, but don’t be obsessed. Instead, work on being who Jesus made you to be, full of life and righteousness—because that is the kind of beauty He’s really enthralled with. I suppose wrinkles will always take over someday, but the beauty of a relationship with God will continue to grow.

Lord, do You really think I’m beautiful?
I want to believe that. I really do!
