mission impossible

Be perfect, therefore,
as your heavenly Father is perfect.

MATTHEW 5:48

We all have role models and celebrities in our lives that we constantly desire to be like. We study their actions, attributes, and words. I confess I have my own heroines that I scrutinize. There is nothing quite wrong with this, as long as we consider the One who should be the ultimate person we follow. He is God Almighty. He should be our aim of perfection. You may be wondering, “Well, I thought that it was impossible to be like God.” This is absolutely true. It is an impossible mission. But it’s also impossible to become that gorgeous actress we love so much. Yet, that doesn’t stop us from cutting our hair like her, buying clothes like her, reading articles about her. So we should seek even harder to be like God, seek with all our heart, mind, and soul, even though we know we’ll never make quite succeed. We should want to look like Him and read about Him even more than we want to read about that famous actress. We are told in Ephesians that we are to be imitators of God. While imitating someone famous gets us nothing more than new hair or new clothes, imitating God gets us an eternity in heaven.

I know I can’t be perfect, God, but I want to
try as hard as I can anyway. I know You’ll help me.
