There’s no way a book like this doesn’t happen without a ton of assistance. So let’s do our best to call it out.
First, a hat tip for the yin to my yang, the Abbott to my Costello—Denny. He has learned to be surprisingly calm with the last-minute high-wire act that is working with me. We’ve been having fun working together for way too many hours over way too many years now. My hope is we keep getting to do so!
Thanks to all the people who’ve helped in the making of this book, including all our Profiles in Simplicity participants. It’s always more interesting when you can grab someone else’s knowledge! The same goes for the members of my homebrew club—the Maltose Falcons—for continuing to challenge the things I think I know.
Thanks to my dogs for not caring one whit about beer and demanding attention and walks instead.
Thanks to beer for being beer!
Lastly, thanks to my wife, Amy, for looking at this hobby gone mad and understanding it, mostly.

None of this would have ever happened if my beery other half Drew hadn’t asked me to join him in writing a book years ago. Three books and two podcasts later, I’ve forgiven him! What can you say about a guy who can make my writing readable and even put up with me being Mr. Grumpy? I love him and look forward to us doing more in the future.
Thanks to Gary Glass and Chris Frey for encouraging me to stay involved. Without their kind words I might have long ago retreated into solo homebrewing.
Thanks to John Palmer for his work as technical editor on this book. I hope we didn’t make his head explode with our heresy!
Thanks to my lovely wife, Paula, who not only got me started homebrewing and puts up with it, but encourages me to do some of the crazy things I do.
And a huge thanks to all the homebrewers all over the world. It’s you people who restore my passion and give me inspiration. You are truly the reason we do this.
