Meditation and Reflection
I am joyful knowing that I’m already a success when I follow my heart and do what I love.
I am enjoying my work so much that I am eager to get up every morning and get started.
I feel happy and fulfilled because I am doing what I was born to do.
Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic, be enthusiastic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.
—RALPH WALDO EMERSON
American essayist and poet
When you are happily doing what you love to do, you’ve already won. When you do something with passion and perseverance, you’re already a success. True passion comes from within; it has a spiritual quality, and it can motivate you to accomplish incredible feats of success.
I’m sure you have met people who are passionate and enthusiastic about what they do. They have purpose and they are totally committed to their work. Caring about what you do, following your heart, and trusting your own ideas of what makes you happy will foster enthusiasm and passion in your life. It comes not just from enjoying your work but also in discovering what else you enjoy, and doing what you were born to do.
This week, we’ll talk about passion and enthusiasm and how you can develop it, keep it alive, and even pass it on to others.
I am joyful knowing that I’m already a success when I follow my heart and do what I love.
Developing passion for the most important areas of your life will make your dreams and goals not only more attainable but it will also make the journey a lot more entertaining, relaxed, and fulfilling.
Take a look at the key areas of your life: your work, your marriage, your friendships, leisure time, and other associations, whether they are professional, religious, or civic. Where do you lack passion and enthusiasm? What would you be doing differently that you think might bring you those qualities? What can you change, stop doing, or start doing that would make your life different? People who are passionate about what they are doing are doing what they love! They have found a way to make a living at it. If you love what you do but you’re not feeling fulfilled, take a hard look at what has become a roadblock for you and deal with it.
When do you find that you are the happiest? What are you doing, feeling, thinking—and who are you with? Those are indicators of what you are attracted to and what could potentially bring more abundance and joy into your life—and the lives of those around you. Is there a way to integrate any of those elements into other areas of your life?
If you spend the time to really evaluate some of these issues and emotions, you will start to see pathways that will lead you to where you truly want to be.
I am enjoying my work so much that I am eager to get up every morning and get started.
So, how do you maintain joy and passion in your life every day? We talked about a few of the answers in earlier chapters: discovering your true purpose, deciding what you really want, believing anything is possible, and believing in yourself, to name a few.
Another way to succeed is to reconnect with your original purpose for doing whatever it is you are doing. Before it got to be a run-of-the-mill task or just a boring necessity, there was a reason that you did it—there was a deeper purpose that turned those have-to-dos into want-to-dos. What was it?
Most of the time, lack of passion and enthusiasm stem from your attitude. You have total control over your attitude—you can be miserable and grumpy about a situation or you can choose to be positive and look for benefits and unexpected opportunities.
And here’s a bonus to consider. When you live with joy, gratitude, and enthusiasm, it’s impossible to keep it to yourself. You become a magnet for others who will be drawn to your energy—often in a way that benefits you.
I feel happy and fulfilled because I am doing what I was born to do.
