Chapter Twenty-Six

One by one...

I didn’t want to come here, but it was like my bike drove here on its own.

Leona’s headstone loomed in front of me, and I dropped to my knees.

Bunches of flowers were laid at the base, and a small teddy bear sat in the center. Its fur was weathered and faded from the sun beating on it every day.

I grabbed the teddy bear and squeezed it tight.

“I’m so sorry, Leona,” I whispered.  “You were meant for so much better than what you got.” My fingers traced over her name carved in the stone. “You were too good for me. We both knew it, but I was too selfish to let you go.” I chuckled and shook my head. “Not like you would have let me go, though.”

Leona may not have been in my life for long, but the days and nights I got to spend with her were some of the best of my life.

Twice, I had found happiness, and each time, it had been ripped away from me.

They were both stolen from me by the same man.

Menace.

My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I pulled it out, expecting to see one of the guys messaging me.

It wasn’t.

I hit the message icon, and the world around me blurred.
