Subtle changes mark the four key years of evolution of the A3XX through Status 3 (early 1994) with its three-post main landing gear to the aft moving wing, slight stretch, and revised cross section of Status 5 in April 1994. Status 6, which lasted through late 1995, culminated in the expansion of the cross section to seat 10 on the main deck and eight on the upper deck. Passing over Status 7, which was the Airbus VLCT study configuration, the design morphed once again in 1996 with the formation of the large aircraft division and the emergence of Status 8. This brought about bigger wings and increased dihedral to fit bigger engines. Status 10, reached initially in early 1998 is clearly recognizable as the distant relative of today’s A380. Airbus
