Heartache Travels
Heartache travels at my side,
urging to go where I go,
needing to nap when I nap;
Even when I say, “Not today, please, no!”
she agrees but soon has closed the gap;
with others near I try to shake her out or hide.
But now I wear her as a kind of sable evening wrap,
enjoy the muted looks, discretion keeping wide;
As a child I needed death and its place is by my side.
