INTRODUCTION BY ELIZABETH MAYHEW

Often I have wished for a fairy godmother, who, like the very capable lunch ladies from my grade school, would plan meals while making sure to vary the weekly repertoire and round them out in a healthy, nutritious way. Not that I would need this fairy godmother to do the cooking—I just need her to decide what I should make for dinner, which always seems to be more than half the battle. Well, consider this book your own dinnertime fairy godmother. We have taken Woman’s Day’s very successful Month of Menus column and turned it into a year-long meal plan. So for the next 365 days, you won’t have to ask the dreaded question “What should I make for dinner tonight?”

This book takes you day by day though the calendar year, giving you easy-to-make, tasty recipes with special attention paid to seasonality—come January 14 you can whip up a comforting Cornbread & Beef Skillet Pie, and on May 24 you can look forward to a delicious Spring Vegetable Frittata. We’ve even included week-by-week shopping lists so you know exactly what to buy and when. By taking the guesswork out of dinner planning, we hope that you will enjoy your time in the kitchen and at the table with your family even more. Now that’s a wish granted!
