Chapter 46

The moment we reached the custodial closet, I whipped out my gun and aimed it at Kisha. She looked like she was about to cry and piss her panties. I didn’t give a fuck about her feelings at the moment. I needed some answers and I needed them now.

“Whoa, Bossman!” Tiny blurted, trying to intervene.

“Whoa what!” I snapped, aiming the gun at him. “If you don’t want to die, I suggest you get the fuck back downstairs and do your fucking job.”

“I’m going, man, I’m going but you need to think about what you’re doing, Bossman,” he said, backing up with his hands held up in surrender.

After Tiny disappeared, Kisha lips began trembling as she looked at me. “Melo, what’s wrong?”

“Bitch, you know what the fuck is up!” I snapped. “First you ask me to be a partner in the club, and then when I tell you gimme a minute to think about the shit, you ask me to get a living will and then a ma’fucka tries to kill me that same night. That’s too much of a fucking coincidence.”

“Melo, I’d never even think about doing what you’re insinuating right now,” she said, shaking her head.

“Well, why after you ask to be my partner and shit, somebody tries to kill me?”

“Fuck you, ma’fucka!” she raged. “You forgot I was in the car with your ass the first time somebody took a shot at you? You forgot you put my life in danger, ma’fucka, so don’t even go there.”

“Kisha, I ain’t going to go back and forth with your ass. You looking too suspect right now, which is throwing me off.”

“Ma’fucka, if I wanted you dead, I could’ve killed your ass all them times I caught you sleeping inside your office,” she revealed, and then lowered her head like she regretted the words soon as they left her mouth. “But I’m not like that, Melo. You kept me around here after Suede died and I am eternally grateful to you for that. But now you coming at me with this bullshit like I want to kill you, which has me thinking that you trying to use that as an excuse to deny my partnership request.”

“Why is this fucking door locked then and why you didn’t tell me about the cameras in the fucking office and shit?”

“That’s some shit Suede had installed when the place first opened. I didn’t know you ain’t know about the shit. I thought you had the keys to the closet, ‘cause Suede was the only one kept the keys to that room. Nobody ever goes in there but him. I just thought you was on the same secret squirrel shit.”

“Kisha, right now I don’t know what to think. I mean, ma’fuckas want me dead for some type of reason and everybody is suspect, including you.”

“Fuck you, Melo!” she snapped. “I don’t hafta take this shit. I ran this club for your ass while you was laid up in the hospital and not once did I complain ‘cause I knew you was in recovery. I made sure the whole $665,000 for all those days made it to the bank safely. And you come back and accuse me of some bullshit? Fuck you!” she said and began walking away.

“Kisha, don’t walk away from me!” I said. But she kept walking.

I took a shot at the wall directly in front of her, which stopped her in her tracks. The loud music downstairs drowned out the mild exploding sounds of my .45 ACP compressor. Kisha turned on me and began walking briskly in my direction. When she got in my face, I felt a little intimidated by the evil look she gave me.

“I know you just didn’t do what I think you did?”

“Your ass ain’t want to sto - ”

WHAP! She slapped the taste out of my mouth, silencing me. I backed up quickly and aimed my gun at her face, fingering the trigger.

“Go ‘head, bitch, kill me!” she screamed, rushing at me, forcing her head on the barrel of the gun. “You think I’m trying to kill you, then go ahead and get it over with and kill me!” she challenged, making me second guess her.

Damn, she really going all out. If she was acting, she just won the Oscar for best performance in a sneaky plot to take me out the game, I thought and lowered my pistol. “Just get the fuck out my face, Kisha.” I said softly, backing up from her.

“That’s all you gon’ say after trying to kill me is get the fuck out your face?” she said, looking at me like I sickened her.

“I ain’t try to kill you. I just wanted your stubborn ass to stop so I could get my point across.”

“Get your point across? Get your point across,” she repeated and then added. “Boy, you know what - ” She paused, and held up her finger at me before sighing. “Hmph, Lord give me strength,” she said and then walked off, switching hard, expressing her anger to me.

“Kisha!” I called.

“Not right now, Melo. Not right now!” she said without looking back, keeping it moving.

Damn, I just fucked up. Maybe Shorty is genuine. She turned in all that money without cuffing one cent. I mean, she probably cuffed some short shit like $5,000 or $10,000, but would I miss it? I thought, knowing I couldn’t lose Kisha. I had to come up with a way to apologize and keep her happy before she left me.

I turned on the custodial closet and began shooting at the lock. After opening the door, I got the shock of my life.
