Howard glanced from the poker table to the window. Pitch black outside at 1:30 p.m.
He looked at his hand: three aces. The one player left spread out two pair.
Howard raked in the pot. He’d cleaned everyone out.
“Okay. Divide up the money,” said another player.
“Divide it up?” Howard said. “I won, fair and square.”
“Wait until you’ve been here five months like us. You hoard the money, that’s the end of poker. We always redistribute the money and play again. That’s how it’s done here at Polar Research Station One. C’mon. You can win it again tomorrow.”
