SARA ZIN WAS BORN IN SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, AND RAISED IN BUFFALO, NEW YORK. SHE began her art career at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, where she studied illustration, design, and painting. She later transferred to the University of Washington, where she received her degree in Interdisciplinary Visual Art. After graduating, she started showing at the Pacini Lubel Gallery, in Seattle, and was awarded the GAP grant. She has exhibited at the Seattle Center Exhibition, Elliott Fouts Gallery, Jacob Lawrence Gallery, Gage Academy of Art, Con Artist, Sylvia White Gallery, Art Basel Miami Beach, and various other galleries across the United States.
Alongside her painting career, she also worked as a graphic designer at Smith-Harmon (an email marketing consultancy) and later at Responsys (an interactive marketing company) before becoming a freelance designer. Her love for food inspired her to combine her skills as a designer and artist to create the blog starvingartistbook.tumblr.com. This blog has been featured on numerous sites, such as Tasting Table, Tumblr Radar, Cross Connect Magazine, Pixel Union, and many other art blogs. Sara has been interviewed and featured in Pink Noise, and BE Magazine, and illustrated for Amazon, Darling Magazine, Gather Journal, Edible Baja Arizona, Graze Magazine, and The Runcible Spoon.
She currently works as a professional illustrator, represented by New Leaf Literary & Media, and resides on the West Coast with her husband.
