Each corner of the South has its own preferred tailgating cuisine, but at most tailgating venues you’ll find the usual suspects: pulled pork, brats, and hamburgers. The game-day fare outside of Tiger Stadium at Louisiana State University, though, is unique, mostly because the food in Louisiana is unlike anywhere else in the country. Cajun and Creole dishes are everywhere under the purple and gold tents, and the generous Tiger fans are always willing to share.
Big pots of jambalaya and fresh seafood gumbo are just a few of the dishes you will see in abundance at an LSU tailgate. You might even run across some deep-fried gator when the Florida State team comes to town. The serious tailgaters set up their tents the night before to secure a spot, and the cooking begins as early as sunup. After a day of food, music, and fun, tailgaters head into the stadium, known as “Death Valley,” with full bellies and high spirits.
