You Can Too
Moses pleaded with the LORD, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” Then the LORD asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”
EXODUS 4:10-12
MOSES WAS A MAN who doubted himself—he said he wasn’t a good speaker and feared that people wouldn’t believe him—and he ended up chosen by God to be one of the Bible’s most important leaders. He led God’s people, the Israelites, out of Egypt and to the Promised Land. So, with God pushing him, he went through a big transformation.
Have you ever felt like you weren’t up for a task? Maybe you had to give a presentation or act in a play. Maybe you felt this way while taking a test or getting ready to play in your first baseball game. Or maybe your teacher chose you to lead a group. If you’ve ever felt like you were going to fail, you know how Moses felt.
God gave Moses a bit of a scolding. He reminded him that God, not Moses, determines who has abilities and talents. And he gave Moses the tools he needed to be successful, and then he pushed him. And guess what? Moses was able to lead God’s people for 40 years.
So, when you face a challenge you really don’t feel equipped for, remember Moses. God will give you the tools you need—and maybe a little push, too. You can do it!
DO
Let’s test your math skills.
Look at these numbers closely: 66, 22, 99, 33, 44, 55. What number greater than 1 can be divided into all the numbers without any remainder? Can you solve it?
Maybe this problem felt too hard or confusing. Maybe you thought you weren’t up to the task. But even if you couldn’t solve it yet—soon you’ll be able to. Just like Moses, you will learn and grow and soon be able to do things that seem too hard or even impossible now.
PRAY
Dear God,
Thank you for pushing me to learn and grow, even when I think I can’t do it. Remind me of Moses’ story and how he grew into a great leader for you even when he had doubts. Amen.
