Lazy Daze

Those too lazy to plow in the right season will have no food at the harvest.

PROVERBS 20:4

BEING LAZY IS A HABIT that’s easy to fall into. Sometimes we all have moments of being lazy, whether it’s not cleaning a room or spending the entire weekend watching TV. But sometimes laziness is a habit that can creep into our lives and begin to take over. So we put off doing homework every day. Or we don’t really pick up after ourselves. Or we slack off with helping around the house. Or we only do chores partway.

Laziness is like a pothole in our character. It drops us down, and it creates a bump for everyone riding along in life with us. When we’re lazy, other people have to pick up where we fall short. Things that need to be done don’t get done. Chores have to be redone so they’re done right.

God doesn’t want us to be lazy. He wants us to work hard and be an example to others about how to get things done the right way. As Jesus’ followers, our actions represent our faith, and part of that is doing our best, being known for being reliable and doing a good job, and having a happy heart. From time to time, we all need a break. But when being lazy becomes a habit, it’s time to change!

DO

Spend a few minutes thinking about your room, schoolwork, chores, and other areas of your life. In what area could you work harder or do a better job? During the next week, do your very best in that area.

PRAY

Dear God,

Thank you for giving me the ability to work hard and do my best in all areas of my life. Please remind me not to fall into laziness but to remember that I reflect you. Help me be a great example of hard work! Amen.
